F.A.Q.
How often should the gutter be cleared?
Usually it’s recommended to get it done annually. However it depends on several things such as:
- material type of the tiles as an erosion factor, in other words how much of the top part of the tile would be eroded and ended up in the gutters in a year;
- how many and what size trees are around, so the amount of leaves are likely to fill the gutters;
- amount of moss is on the roof;
- the proper sloping of the gutters.
Based on the list above it could be 2-3 times in a year.
But if those in the list are okay and the house has a slate roof, it may be enough to get it done once in every 2-3 years.
Why is it an issue to have moss on the roof?
A chunk of moss has not much weight in itself but the moss can hold a lot of water. A one meter length of gutter full of it can weigh about 4 kilograms or more which is very stressful for plastic gutters.
Even if the gutter holds the weight, moss can easily block the way of the water and it can fall onto the ground around your house, but the biggest problem is that on a long term basis it damages the tiles of your roof. It continously turns the surface of the tiles into soil deeper and deeper until making a total damage.
Which gutter leaf guard is good for my house?
We would recommend using the running outlet leaf guard which can be installed into the running outlet, to the top of the downpipe.
Although the leaf guards that are installed all the way in the gutter could be good against leaves, but they can’t keep off dust, moss and the erosive surface of the tiles, these will stick to the guard and carry on growing on them in the little gaps, underneath and all around.
So wherever you can see these leaf guards on gutters there usually is more moss, debris and soil, therefore they don’t work that much.
Which gutter type is the best?
Regarding the metal gutters, mainly the new type of alumínium gutters are the best, lasting forever…
Lifetime of plastic gutters varies. The half round and deep flow gutters are longer lasting, these are not likely to twist, deform so much, than the square gutters.
How can I pay for your services?
You can pay via bank transfer, cheque or even cash if not larger amount. The bank details are shown on the bottom of our invoice, also you can find it on our website….
Do I have to pay for a viewing?
No, it is free of charge. And it doesn’t take long, we just need to look at a few things around the house, either from the ground or using a ladder.
When do I need gutter, roof or leaking investigation?
Investigation is needed when it is not so easy and obvious to see the reason why it is leaking or why you have dampness in the house.
If it takes extended time rather than a quick viewing we charge by the hour, but as our technicians are very experienced, so you don’t need to worry, we do not waste your time and money. Occasionally testing the roof with water or opening up roof sections, the ceiling as an action can also be involved.
How fast can you come to do the job?
Our workers in the office are doing their very best to arrange a date for you as soon as possible when you need our service. You will be given the exact time period and agree upon it one day before the actual service day.
We consider any queries you may have regarding parking availability or other aspects.
In most cases we can book a viewing 1-2 days from your call, email or after you filled the form on our website.
When our technician views the job and can see that it is just a small repair, we might be able to get it done immediately, the office will shortly give you a call with an instant quote.
If the issue would take more time to repair, then we can send you a proper detailed quotation and set up another date for the job.
If the job is weather related as a mortar or painting job, we will book the job for a certain day which meets the weather criteria as well as your availabilities. Please be aware that if the weather conditions change we may need to update the working days too.
How many years of warranty do you give?
Smaller repairs 1 year, depending on the job we might give more.
In what case do I get 10 year warranty?
We give 10 year warranty for a full replacement of the gutter as well as the fascia and the soffit. If the rafter requires replacement it must be included in order to have a valid warranty for 10 years.
If just certain sections were replaced the warranty is valid for those sections only.
For roof replacement we also give 10 year of full warranty if the tiles, patten and at least the waterproof membrane has been replaced by our company.
Will it be the same technician, team doing the job who did the viewing?
Generally speaking yes.
How do I know if the technician will do a good job?
There is an internship for new workers, we have internal training and we regularly go out to check their work, so our company has the same overall high quality.
Does my insurance company pay for a new roof?
Most homeowners insurance policies cover roof replacement if the damage is the result of an act of nature or sudden accidental event. Most homeowners insurance policies won’t pay to replace or repair a roof that’s gradually deteriorating due to wear-and-tear or neglect.
Can just part of my roof be fixed?
If your roof needs just a few shingles replaced or a few minor patches made, you can get a roofer to make those small repairs for you.
But if you need anything more than half of your roof repaired, it’s in your best interest to simply re-roof your entire home.
